Help & answers
Insurance questions, answered plainly
General information to help you shop with confidence. Your policy documents always control what's covered.
Coverage
What is a coverage limit?
The most your carrier will pay for a covered loss. Limits can apply per claim, per person, or per year, depending on the policy type.
How much coverage do I need?
It depends on what you'd need to replace or protect. For renters, total up your belongings. For life, many people consider income replacement, debts and future costs such as education.
What's the difference between actual cash value and replacement cost?
Actual cash value pays what an item is worth today after depreciation. Replacement cost pays what it costs to buy a similar new item. Replacement cost usually has a higher premium.
What does liability coverage do?
It pays if you're legally responsible for injuring someone or damaging their property, including legal defense costs, up to your limit.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
ACA Health plans can't deny you or charge more for pre-existing conditions. Pet insurance generally excludes them. Always read the exclusions.
Deductibles & premiums
What is a deductible?
The amount you pay out of pocket before your coverage starts paying on a claim.
Should I choose a high or low deductible?
A higher deductible lowers your premium but means you pay more when you claim. Pick one you could comfortably pay from savings tomorrow.
What is a premium?
The price you pay for the policy, usually monthly or yearly. On InsuranceGain, earnings you unlock can be credited toward it.
What is an out-of-pocket maximum?
In health plans, the most you'll pay for covered care in a year. After you reach it, the plan pays 100% of covered services.
Claims
How do I file a claim?
Contact your carrier directly as soon as possible. InsuranceGain is a referral marketplace, so claims are handled entirely by your carrier.
What should I keep for a claim?
Photos, receipts, police or incident reports, medical bills and a record of every call with the carrier.
Will a claim raise my premium?
It can, especially for at-fault auto claims or multiple claims in a short period. Rules vary by carrier and state.
What if my claim is denied?
Ask the carrier for the reason in writing, use their appeal process, and contact your state insurance department if you need help.
Policy terms
What is a policy term?
The length of time your policy is in force, such as 6 or 12 months for auto and renters, or 10, 20 or 30 years for term life.
What is an exclusion?
Something the policy doesn't cover. Common examples: floods in standard renters policies, or cosmetic procedures in pet policies.
What is a rider or endorsement?
An add-on that changes coverage, such as scheduling jewelry on renters insurance or adding a child rider to life insurance.
Can I cancel a policy?
Usually yes. Many carriers refund unused premium. Check for cancellation fees and avoid a gap in coverage before you switch.
What is a grace period?
Extra time after a missed payment before coverage lapses. Its length depends on the carrier, policy type and state.
Premium vs. earnings
What's the difference between my premium and my earnings?
Your premium is what you owe your carrier for the policy. Earnings are credits you unlock on InsuranceGain that can be applied toward that premium. The carrier bill never changes — earnings help you cover it.
When do earnings unlock?
Once a policy you found here is acquired and its first premium payment is recorded, by you or by the carrier. Each policy is tracked on its own.
How are credits applied to my premium?
When you log a premium payment, you can apply available credits against it. Your dashboard shows payments made, credits used and what's left.
Is there one credit balance or one per policy?
One account-wide balance. Eligibility is per policy, but all credits you earn go into the same balance.
Do earnings replace paying my carrier?
No. You still pay the carrier directly and on time. Credits reduce what comes out of your own pocket; missing a carrier payment can still lapse your coverage.
Can I earn by inviting friends?
Yes. Share your invite link and earn $25 in credits for each policy a friend completes.
Are earnings taxable?
Rewards can be taxable in some cases. We don't give tax advice — talk to a tax professional about your situation.
Using InsuranceGain
Are you an insurance agent?
No. We're a referral marketplace. We help you compare and send you to the carrier, who sells and services the policy.
Are quotes final prices?
No. Quotes are estimates. The carrier sets your final price after its own underwriting.
How do earnings unlock?
After your policy is acquired and your first premium payment is recorded, your earning buckets unlock and credits can go toward your premium.
Do insurers see my personal details?
Not from us. Insurers see totals and your referral code only; you share details directly with the carrier when you apply.
